...spring, sprang, sprung.....

I finished my spring forward! I really love these socks. If you haven't knitted them yet, get on it! They are an easy knit and really show off hand dyed yarn. Check 'em out!

Thanks, Linda, for designing such a great knit!!

...all the president's men...

More from the road. We traveled through South Dakota and got to see Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. WOW! Here's the view at Mt. Rushmore...

There is a flag from every state that line the walkway to the monument. This was really cool.

On the pillar below each flag is the name of the state and when they were admitted to the union.

...oh yeah, there were mountain goats, too...

After Rushmore we went to the Crazy Horse Monument. On the way, we came around a corner to find this....

...yep, that's George....

Here's what we saw at Crazy Horse.

This statue is 1/34th the size of the actual monument and it represents what the monument will look like when it is finished. Pretty cool.... Oh, that hole in the side of the monument is large enough to drive a dump truck through. Amazing.....

We continued on the road to Helena, Montana, where we had dinner with my Aunt and Uncle. So good to see them! The the next morning we were off from Helena and ended the day, finally, at the cabin. Road trip complete......

We covered 9 states in 2 1/5 days. I was at the cabin until yesterday when I flew from Pendleton to Portland.
As Dorothy said....."there's no place like home...."

...illinois, wisconsin, minnesota, south dakota...

Well, we left Illinois this morning at 7:00 a.m., travelled through Wisconsin, Minnesota and ended our day in Rapid City, South Dakota. We are staying about 20 miles from Mt. Rushmore, which we will be seeing in the morning. For now, we are in our hotel having a glass of much deserved wine and relaxing after 800+ miles in the car.

The mileage was not without fruitfulness. I got one "spring forward" almost done, in the colorway Grimm's Willow Wren, STR lightweight. I must tell you that I love this sock pattern, designed by the lovely and talented Linda, and of course I adore the yarn. Linda is such a rockstar with color and design! Check out her blog and also get your very own "spring forward" pattern on Knitty.
We listened to "Auditions", by Barbara Walters. If you haven't read or listened to this, do it! It's really a fun read. We learned alot!

Anyway, Marianne and I had a great time in the car with our co-pilot, "lily". She seemed to try to inch her way from the back end of the car up to the front seat as we traveled along. Right now she is crashed on my bed. I think it was a big day for all of us.

Tomorrow.....pics of the president's heads.....oh, and more knitting.....

...traveling in style...

Well, I always knew that my sister-in-law knew how to do things right. Check out my "ride" she got me from the airport to her home in nearby Antioch.

Yes, it had a bar. No, I did not have a drink. Yes, I did some knitting during the 60 minute drive from the airport. Here is the final stages of my Shetland triangle in geisha, colorway "metamorphic". It's a shawl that has needed attention for some time now and I am almost finished!

Anyway, it was really a treat to ride in my very own limo! The next "ride" we have on our trip won't be a limo, but will be just as fun! See you down the road.....

...on the road again...

Presently, I am sitting at gate C-12 at the Portland Airport waiting for my flight to Chicago to be called. I am venturing off again, this time to meet up with my sister-in-law, Marianne. I will be in Chicago until Sunday when she and I will begin our "Thelma and Louise" trip back to Oregon. She and her husband come out to the cabin each year from Chicago. This year they wanted to bring their dog,"lilly", and Marianne needed a co-pilot as her husband will be flying out in about a week to meet her. I knew this would be a road trip not to miss (awesome sightseeing and lots of knitting time in the car), so I volunteered.

I will be blogging on the road and hopefully getting some great pics! Rest assured, I have plenty of knitting packed!
If you haven't heard, or have been under a rock somewhere, Tina, a.k.a. depraved dyer from BMFA has her blog up and running. Check it out!

...one time... at knitting camp...

It was another great year at Camp Knitty-Ha-Ha. The weather was warm, the wine was yummy, the knitting was plentiful and the goddesses were a blast. I laughed, I cried, I finished a bunch of stuff! Here is how things started.....
...yes, that is many bottles of wine in front of the fireplace, and the "stuff" in front of the fireplace is, in fact, yarn and/or fiber waiting to become yarn....

...our movie marathon featured the lovable Kevin Klein...

...our daily view from the deck, (pretty easy to get used to!)...

...winding some finished spinning...

...another skein done...

...bloody mary's in the morning...

...complete with garlic stuffed olives...

...cat naps....
...and wildlife...

...bear trap...

...and a present from the bear.....(in our yard!)

...finished projects....

...and felted bags...

...pics together ...

...saying goodbye...

...until next year...where did I put that corkscrew?

...off to camp

We are off to Camp Knitty-Ha-Ha this morning. Just so you know, I have more bags with knitting and spinning stuff going than clothes! Needless to say, we do have a washer and dryer so I am in no danger of running out of things to wear. But I really could not take the chance on running out of things to knit and spin while at the cabin!
No photos in this post, but rest assured there will be plenty of pics and stories when we get back. I'll be posting when I return as we have no Internet at the cabin. Sometimes you just have to rough it! Have a great week!

...small town USA...

Happy 4th everyone! I thought I would show you how we celebrate each year in our town....

...with friends on Main Street...

...at the parade...

..with Uncle Sam...
...with flags...

...and veterans...
...and bands....

...I think I finally found a band that I could join...

...now if I could just find that flute I played in jr. high...
Hope your 4th was great!
